Life in the City

This series Life in the City depicts everyday life in the city of Philadelphia from a camera’s point of view. In this project I tried to convey the juxtaposition of busyness and stillness, the hustle and bustle with the calming of a moment. The city is constantly in motion and the beauty of photography is that we can capture these moments to keep. Instead of focusing on the architecture and the exterior of buildings in the city my focus was about moments and feelings. My photographs capture the moments of daily life looking through the eyes of a typical person. Whether that be looking up at buildings and realizing how small we actually are in this universe, or to the feeling a sense of home or familiarity surrounded by so many people. As I explored the city I captured real life moments when they happened. I captured subways, alleyways, busy streets, people, and a lot of moments. My inspiration behind why I made this project was just feeling so many things when walking down the streets of Philadelphia, the sense of purpose and excitement it makes you feel with an overwhelming feeling of smallness. I wanted to capture what I felt in these specific moments for other people to experience. These photos were taken on a Canon Rebel T1i and were edited in Adobe Lightroom.

Eastern State Penitentiary

This series of photos was taken at The Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia, PA. We got to not only explore this place but we also got the opportunity to capture what this place is really like. It was cold and had an overwhelming sense of solitude. These images portray the destruction, emptiness, and lonliness that you feel when walking through the halls on the penitentiary. These photos were taken on a Canon Rebel T1i and they were edited in Adobe Lightroom.
